Read the introdcutions of Minervainen, Anakichi, and Iaia, who will be judging the Assembly Summer Cosplay Competition!
At Assembly Summer 2023, a cosplay competition will be held on Saturday, August 5th. Three experienced cosplayers have been recruited to judge the competition.
Hello there! I’m Minervainen, a fashion student who has been cosplaying for about 11 years. I first competed in a cosplay competition in 2013 and have since gained experience in both costume-making and performance-oriented contests, even placing in some of them. I’ve performed on stage both alone and in groups, and have also dabbled in amateur musical theater outside of cosplay.
For me, cosplay strongly combines my crafting and performing skills, and the best part is when the costume and performance come together to create a cohesive experience. As a performer, I’m thrilled when we can bring a polished and effective performance to the stage that leaves a lasting impression on the audience for years to come.
I’m excited to see all kinds of crafting skills at the Assembly cosplay competition, whether it’s precise seamwork, perfectly timed sound effects in the performance, or a flawlessly smooth suit of armor. Good luck to all the contestants!
My name is Anakichi and I’m a judge at this event! I’ve been involved in cosplay since 2006, so I have quite a bit of experience. I’m a hat maker, partial costume seamstress, textile artist, and soon-to-be teacher.
Over the years, I’ve seen the cosplay world from many different perspectives – as a competitor on stage, a judge in the judging room, a cosplay mom backstage, and most recently as the cosplay coordinator organizing contests at Desucon.
In costumes, I appreciate fine details and creative solutions. Little decorations and frills that reveal themselves on closer inspection really excite and inspire me! As a future teacher, I will also be examining seams and finishing, so be meticulous!
Hi! I’m Iaia and you can find me on Instagram with the username @iaia_cosplay. I’ve been cosplaying for almost 6 years and have made several costumes mainly from source materials, including a lot of frilly idol outfits! When making costumes, I love tinkering with even the tiniest design details. I’m also very focused on sewing, so I pay special attention to the costume’s seams and details in judging. I also appreciate the creative use of materials!
The Assembly competition will be my first time judging! I’m excited to see what kind of creations each contestant comes up with. Have fun making costumes and good luck! See you at Assembly!
