Around 200 committed individuals work as volunteers for Assembly, who together create the event and make it just the way it is: personal, unique, and full of action! Different crews work with different tasks, but many things are repeated: friendly colleagues, amazing experiences, and the possibility to create high-quality programs!
In BuildCrew, you get to physically build the event by placing and carrying tables, planning cable matting, managing logistics, and everything else small and large related to event building - in good company, of course! BuildCrew consists of eager doers who are willing to lend a hand. They actively participate in setting up the event, but their workload during the event itself is less.
In CompoCrew, you work with real-time compos and ingame compos. You need to have some knowledge of the event, interest in the demos scene, and basic IT skills. Understanding of AV technology is a plus. Even though the work in CompoCrew is hectic, you have a great team to help and guide you. You get to learn about demo production and technology!
CateringCrew runs the volunteer cafe/snack bar and makes sure that the volunteers don't run out of coffee or snacks. You can work in this position without prior experience, and a good mood and attitude are what counts! Catering is an essential part of the volunteers' well-being, and in this role, you can be sure to be everyone's friend.
The main task of IVOcrew is to provide power to the event's computer places, making them one of the most critical roles for computer visitors. During the building phase, the main activity is to distribute extension cords to tables, make connections, and install the constructed electrical network measurements. Previous electrical knowledge is an advantage in this role, but not necessary. IVOcrew prefers to recruit new people at winter events, and summer events are a bigger event, the "next gear up."
In IVOcrew, most of the tasks focus on the event's building days and teardown, with tasks during the event focusing on monitoring and fixing electrical faults.
EsportsCrew is the right place for those who know the latest games and matches inside out - with a passionate attitude towards gaming! EsportsCrew members get to act as judges for the event's amateur and professional tournaments or help pro-players at the event, while enjoying the great company and getting access to the tournaments' front row seats (if the tasks permit).
In LiveCrew, you get to work with, among other things, streaming, stage technology, and moderation/broadcasting supervision on different stages (game stage, main stage, Assymylly, etc.). Your attitude also counts in these jobs!
The Visitor Experience Crew focuses on beautifying the venue and creating a visitor experience. In this role, you get to do interior design and composition as much as your soul desires!
PhotoCrew captures the highlights and moods of the event in pictures, which are used in the event's communication and marketing. Through their photos, PhotoCrew ensures that the atmosphere of the event is preserved for years to come. In this crew, it is important to understand not only the basics of photography, but also more advanced techniques, such as how to shoot in a dark hall with LED lights and computer screens. To join PhotoCrew, experience is necessary, as well as your own photography equipment and an understanding of event photography - or at least a strong desire to learn it. The team is part of Assembly's overall MARCOM team (marketing communications).
FilmCrew is responsible for recording videos of the event for the after film and social media. Editing programs and filming are familiar to these people, and in their hands, effects, object animations, and end credits are placed in no time. Members of the crew get their names in the event's after film and get to work in a creative and imaginative team.
Digital Lifestyle focuses on sponsors, friends of Assembly, and partners. Strong customer service skills, good sense of business and positive attitude are needed for these positions.
The work can be hectic at times, but rewarding! The tasks mainly focus on the second building day and the event.
Sometimes it can feel like you're too far behind the scenes and would like to get closer to the customer interface. In Info and Ticket Sales, you get to help event attendees solve all kinds of problems and situations, but it's never boring! As a bonus, you get to work with some of the most charming colleagues who make the time fly by and help you handle any issues.
IG, TikTok, Youtube, Discord, general communication - you name it. SomeCrew members know the channels and methods like the back of their hand but want to try, learn and create new things. They are responsible, along with others, for ensuring that social media posts fly and hashtags are in place. They are marching in the Siikamarssi or watching the controllers fly into the corner in the Tekken tournament, or at least writing about it. The social media team is where the action is. Currently, the social media team is looking for one more person who can write diverse stories about the event and possibly even take pictures of them. If you are familiar with at least some aspects of Canva, Photoshop, target groups, and content management systems, or are extremely interested in them, then the social media team is the right place for you!
